Awkwafina
American actor and musician Awkwafina was the first to debut her sly lyrics that tackled issues of sexuality and identity with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before broadening her presence to Hollywood. Born Nora Lum to Chinese and Korean parents who immigrated to Forest Hills Queens her first experience with music came via the trumpet. Jazz, classical and hip-hop education began when she was a teenager. When she was in college, she was focusing on her studies, majoring in women's journalism and the arts. for a brief amount of time, she was in Beijing as well, she was also studying Mandarin. The focus on music until after she graduated. After becoming famous through the Internet and her own single My Vag was a reaction to Mickey Avalon's My Dick. It eventually made its way onto her album debut Yellow Ranger. It also included other popular hits, including the body positive Queef and a winking, hometown tour NYC BitcheUSD. This latter song was directly tied to Awkwafina's NYC, a 2015 travel guide. As a musician and an author as her credentials, she set her sights on an actor for a third venture. Alongside early TV shows like Girl Code and Tawk she was also in films like Neighbors 2 Storks and Bad Rap. Her breakthrough came in the year 2018 when she appeared in a number of notable films like Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. Then in June she launched the EP In Fina We Trust.
