Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old from Long Beach California. DuVernay received support from her Aunt Denise at the age of just a young girl. She worked as a night nurse to allow her aunt the time she needed during the day for the love of literature, art as well as theatre. DuVernay was a fan of the movie West Side Story, which she showed her. DuVernay saw how art was an effective tool for promoting social activism. DuVernay was raised by a mother who was aware of her social circle and taught her to utilize the arts as a means of expressing herself. DuVernay was raised together with her parents in Compton and spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama in the house of her father's family. The father of DuVernay's reminiscences recalled the historical civil rights marches across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby town Selma Alabama. The time spent in Selma, Alabama during the summer, would later inspire her to make a film about The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood in California in the year 1990. She went to the University of California Los Angeles to earn degrees in English and African American Studies. DuVernay started producing broadcast journalism at the age of an elementary school student. She started as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being asked look over the rubbish at the home that belonged to a member of jury. Due to her work, she became dissatisfied with journalism, and shifted into the business of publicity. DuVernay began working in a small studio as a Junior Publicist right after college. Her private PR company, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. Her agency launched numerous lifestyle and promotion networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
